Devi Ambika

Goddess Ambika is described both as the sister or consort of Rudra in the Vajasabeyi Samhita III:58. In the Taittiriya Brahmana 1.6.10.4, Verse 1.8.6.4 also speaks of the same relationship of brother and sister between Ambika and Rudra and a sister showing no mercy towards the wicked. The commentator of this Brahmana, the sage Mahidhara, states that Ambika assumes the form of autumn. She kills the enemies by way of creating diseases during this season. Rani Abbakka

from Chowta dynasty ruled a small coastal town called Ullal, 8 km away from Mangalore. During her reign, the Portuguese wanted to conquer the coastal town and use it as a port.They made their first attempt in 1525. But Rani Abbakka resisted and fought fiercely against the Portuguese, gaining the name Rani Abhaya (fearless queen). An annual celebration is held each year in Ullal in memory of the queen.
